One of the biggest problems with working for yourself is creativity. You are creative or you wouldn’t want to be working for yourself. Which leads to tons of ideas. It’s so exciting to come up with a fantastic idea that you know will absolutely work.
The problem comes with making those ideas into an action plan.
An appropriate action plan supports a great business and maintains your motivation.
Plans Turn Into Actions
First: Your action plan needs to include small steps to reach your major milestones that support your final goal. Having a detailed plan makes the process clearer and easier.
Second: Ditch the fear. Many of us have wonderful ideas that never come into fruition because of fear. Fear can stop us dead in our tracks. Don’t let the fear of failure stop you from making your ideas a success.
Remind yourself that in the grand scheme of things you have little to lose. What is the worst that could happen? Actually figure that out. Are you worried about what people might say? Who are these people you are worried about? Maybe evaluate why their negative opinion would matter to you. People will always have something to say.
Instead, focus on the fact that you got off your ass and tried. Many of the haters only hate because they lack any motivation to try and better themselves. They’d rather put others down than try.
Third: Take small steps. There is nothing more frightening than looking at all the details of a business idea. When you create that list, with all of the little steps that need taken. It’s going to be huge. No way around that. There’s a lot to get done for any big idea. Don’t let that list freak you out.
I know people are very different when it comes to lists. Some of you might not be able to write every single little thing down or you will get overwhelmed and stop working on it. I need every tiny thing down. Then on days I’m lacking motivation, I will grab one of those quick projects. Knowing I can finish something in 5 or 10 minutes is a start. Once I start, it leads me to working on other list items. Plus, if you have a really detailed list, you can outsource easier.
Succeed with Your Action Plan
The trick here is to take small steps. Look at each part of your business plan and take one small action step each day. Don’t let the big picture overwhelm you. Keep on taking one step at a time.
Turning your ideas into action is the difference between those that succeed and those that wallow in their self pity. Everyone has ideas. Some people have more ideas and better ideas. But it’s only the people that put their ideas out there that can succeed. No one cares about that great idea on your to do list. They want to see that great idea in action.
